Chad Ohlheiser – Drum Instructor
Chad Ohlheiser is a rhythm section expert. Being proficient playing percussion,
piano, guitar and bass gives him a unique edge in teaching young minds how to
create music.
Much of Chad's formal training took place at Riverside Community College and
the University of Redlands, but his experience on stage and in the studio is what
molded him into the musician he is now. His performance styles range from
classical to rock, and from jazz to tango. Such diversity is the trademark of
Chad's philosophy: Genres are fictional, there is only music.
He spends most of his time accompanying and composing for various dance
companies, which take advantage of all of his skills. Chad is also an
accomplished audio engineer, having done some sound reinforcement duties for
artists like Steve Miller, Diana Krall. He has shared the stage musically with the
likes of Eek-A-Mouse and HR from Bad Brains, as well as legendary jazz
trombonist Slide Hampton. All of this variety brings a certain eclectic teaching
style that brings in elements from all over the world to expose students to what
Chad calls "the Universe of Sound." Believing that the best musician is a well
rounded one, he doesn't allow students to fall into a rut and only be able to play
one style of music. Creativity exists when different styles come together.
Chad's newest project, Goodbye Radar, is a perfect example of this clash of
styles, and has already performed at the Coachella Music Festival and piqued
the interest of Nine Inch Nails' musical powerhouse Trent Reznor. As Chad often
says, "Music is everywhere. You just have to use your ears to hear it." |
